Peru former president Alan Garcia commits suicide to escape being arrested
Peru former president Alan Garcia…Peru’s previous president Alan Garcia shot himself in the head at his home on Wednesday as police were going to capture him in a rambling defilement case, his legal advisor and emergency clinic authorities said.
The 69-year-old Garcia was experiencing crisis medical procedure for “a projectile injury to his head” at the Casimiro Ulloa Emergency Hospital in Lima, the clinic said.
Peru’s Health Minister Zulema Tomas said Garcia was in “intense and basic” condition.
“We’ve needed to revive him multiple times. He’s had three heart failures,” said Tomas.
“He is in a sensitive condition and the visualization is held,” included the wellbeing service, which said the shot went straight through Garcia’s head.
The endeavored capture occurred at 6:30 a.m. (1130 GMT) at Garcia’s home in the luxurious Miraflores neighborhood of Lima.
“At the beginning of today there was an unfortunate mishap: the president took the choice to shoot himself,” Erasmo Reyna, Garcia’s legal counselor, told journalists outside the clinic.
Garcia, who was president from 1985-90 and again from 2006-11, is associated with having accepted hush money from Brazilian development mammoth Odebrecht as an end-result of expansive scale open works contracts.
In November he looked for shelter in the Uruguayan Embassy and connected for haven yet he left the following month after it was denied.
He is one of four Peruvian ex-presidents involved in different defilement outrages close by Pedro Pablo Kuczynski, Ollanta Humala, and Alejandro Toledo.
